One of the best places to take wedding photos is the beach

Wedding Photography in South Australia is one of my favourite things to photograph. We have so many places to "shoot" the happy couple, ranging from gorgeous outback or country scenery, to stunning sandy beaches and magnificent architecture.

When photographing any wedding, it is important to get to know your couple. I believe you cant just show up at a wedding and photograph, without first meeting your couple and getting a feel for what they want, and more importantly their history. What got them together, where did they meet, etc can play an important role in where you decide to photograph them. If they got together at say, Adelaide Uni, why not take them there for their photographs (although you may have to get in line, it is quite busy on a Saturday afternoon!)

If you are lucky enough to photograph in the country, a simple farm house, gum tree or dirt road can make a stunning backdrop for a wedding. Try to stay clear of "posing" shots (leave the tripod in the car!) and get out and have some fun with the couple. They have embarked on a journey together, and your images are going to remind them of that everyday of their lives, so make it good or go home!

The beaches in South Australia are another great place to shoot, plus it helps your couple relax after the fun and drama of the ceremony they have just gone through. Speaking of ceremonies, please do not get in the way of this! This is their moment, don't go shoving a camera in their face in the middle of it. Put a zoom lens on, stand back and let them have their moment, whilst you capture it from afar. There is nothing worse that sitting at a wedding whilst the guest whisper about how annoying the photographer is, and how they cannot see what is going on because you are standing in the way!

Don't be afraid to look outside the square, tilt the camera for a close up, use a zoom lens and a macro lens. Remember to bend the rules, not break them. Horizons should always be straight, trees do not grow out of peoples heads, and out of focus is just that, there is nothing "arty" about it!

Every wedding I photograph is with pride and it should be the same for any wedding photographer. These images are going to remind the couple of their special day every time they look at them (unless it all ends in tears, then at least know that you images will be looked upon fondly right before they are burnt in a sacrificial ceremony involving wine and a couple of really close friends!). Make sure that they have the best image you can produce, be it for hanging on the wall, in a wedding album or at a sacrifice somewhere down the track!
